My family has kind of struggled when it has come to raising cats, as we have been unable to keep them for very long.
Our first 2 cats were from our town’s little farmer’s market. We happened to stop by one Saturday morning, and some people we knew were giving away kittens, so we grabbed a pair that they said seemed to be friends. A few days later we got a third kitten from a neighbor who was also giving them away. We decided that we wanted to be original in our naming selections, so we thought long and hard about it… and finally landed on naming them ‘Hogan, Schultz, and Klink’ (they were all male kittens) from one of our favorite TV shows, Hogan’s Heroes. These cat’s stayed around for a while, and were all really good, friendly cats. But after about 6 months Hogan disappeared, followed by Klink, and lastly Schultz.
Our second attempt at cats were with 2 kittens from some people we go to church with. Once again, we wanted original and unique names for them, and once again they we both male…. So they ended up being Smith and Wesson. These kittens were very friendly as well, and were not afraid of people. We went on a short road trip after we had them for awhile, but when we returned they had disappeared as well… (we think that someone welcomed them into their home while we were away….)
So to recap, we have had 5 cats. All male. And all have disappeared in around or under 6 months. (We are also assuming that there could be some ‘lady troubles’ involved as well)
BUT! We will not get discouraged! We just got our 6th and 7th kitten from our same friends from church… Again they are both male, but we are also planning on getting a female from a neighbor, so HOPEFULLY we will have them stick around, and maybe have some kittens of our own in the future!
As to the names of our new kittens… Dodge and Ram…. We wanted something that would go along with the ‘Automobile’ themed name of our dog – Chevrolet Silverado. Oh, and we have two choices for the name of the female cat we’re going to get, Porsche and Kia. (I like Porsche, personally)
But, here are some pictures of Dodge and Ram!
